Diagnostic Programmes for Cats, Rabbits and Birds
We offer diagnostic consultations either in your home (within 50 miles of our practice) or remotely if you live further away.
Why & When Does Your Pet Need a Referral?
Cats, birds, and rabbits can experience both physical and emotional challenges that impact their behaviour. We’re here to help caregivers understand and support their pets, ensuring the best possible outcome for everyone.
Referral and Pre-Consultation Preparation
As soon as your referral is submitted, you will receive a questionnaire to complete. Prior to your consultation, we’ll also ask you to:
- Capture up to three short videos of your pet in everyday situations, such as during playtime or interacting with people.
- Provide a short video tour of your home, highlighting areas relevant to your pet.
- Submit a rough drawing of your house plan.
These materials help us understand your pet in their natural environment without causing stress or risk. For your pet’s safety and wellbeing, we never ask you to film behaviour at its most extreme. Instead, we gather information through careful questioning, understanding that problem behaviours often arise when animals feel unable to relax in their environment.

What Happens During a Behavioural Consultation?
During the consultation, one of our veterinary surgeons will take a detailed history of your pet’s emotional and behavioural challenges.
We will:
- Explain the underlying emotions driving unwanted behaviours.
- Help you interpret your pet’s body language and provide tools to support them effectively.
- Create a personalised behaviour modification plan and guide you through each phase of improvement.
Many cases require a structured, step-by-step approach to set your pet up for long-term success. Home visits are available within our radius, and video consultations are offered for those further afield.
This theory-based consultation is best attended by all household members. A written summary of the consultation will be provided for your reference.
Ongoing Guidance and Support
Following the diagnostic consultation, our vets will continue working with you to interpret your pet’s body language and provide practical tools to support their progress.
We offer consultation sessions in two formats:
- Remote (Video Link): Flexible sessions from the comfort of your own home.
- In-Person (Home Visits): Available within 50 miles of our practice.
Additional consultations incur an extra charge.
Please note: as your pet is under our ongoing behavioural care, they must be reviewed every 6 months by one of our own veterinary surgeons. A routine review with your GP vet will not fulfil this requirement and would not allow us to continue treatment.

The Importance of Caregiver Involvement
Your role as a caregiver is central to your pet’s rehabilitation journey. Regular contact via our preferred communication platform allows us to:
- Track your pet’s progress
- Adjust their behavioural modification plan if needed
- Provide guidance and reassurance every step of the way
Your active involvement, combined with our professional expertise, is key to achieving lasting behavioural change and helping your pet thrive.
